my PC configuration is

CPU: i7-2600

I resolved this issue by increasing the number of processor cores in settings>Processor. By default, VB has the guest OS set for 1 core, and it's horribly slow. I upped mine to 2 core and it works fairly smoothly. Only time I have run into severe lag is if I do anything that processing intensive.
