Alternative for updating to 10.9.3

Recommended Posts

Hey guys wondering if I could get help on this. I'm currently running os x 10.9 on an AMD system and wish to update. I know that I need to backup my kexts and manually install the proper kernel, but all that requires the niresh thumbdrive, which I no longer have. I can't make another one, because I don't have another 8gb flashdrive. I downloaded this app called AMD install helper 1.1.1 from the downloads page and was wondering if this would work. If not, does anyone know of an alternate way of updating that doesn't require the niresh bootable usb? I'm a bit of a noob at this, so I apologize if this post is just not possible. Thanks.

specs:

amd athlon iix2 250

Dell inspiron 570 mobo

4gb ram

bfg geforce 8600gts 256mb

Hey John, is it too much necessary to update the system. I have a friend of mine who runs a MacBook Air for the last 3 years on the same Snow Leopard platform, so why should we update to the recent version just after it's release (as we are not running the core Apple system)? Don't get personal, but hey buddy, I've tried to update the system just yesterday and messed up a big time. So I had to install 10.9 again. So if you are not so sure about how to update to the latest version (and specifically for your specs), don't go for it. To run previous version is way much better than getting a kernel panic for installing latest update.

Adiós!

    • Sierra installed without any issue, but cannot get GT620 to work. Installed Cuda and Webdriver and boots without issues, but home screen wallpaper disappears and screen becomes black. Is this card supported on Sierra?
    • I get this message no matter what I do, I've tried changing my SMBIOS to a newer model to no avail. Anyone no how to get the second install boot to work?

    • Hello! I wanted to install MacOS High Sierra, but the SSD does not appear in Disk Manager. I have a Samsung Pro 840 250GB. Is there a Driver for Intel Gigabit 82579LM Network LAN for MacOS High Sierra?
    • This is my very first post and have looked around the forums to my question but I wasn't able to find the exact specifics that I need. This is my very first windows/mac dual boot project. I chose to attempt high sierra and I hope I am posting in the correct area. High Sierra seemed to be the newest that is possibly more stable than Mojave so I chose that. I'm reaching out to the more advanced builders and experienced people. I'm currently running Win 10 as of now and bought a separate SSD to install a macOS on. Before I invest time and energy into this. I'm wanting to get the best recommendations on what OS I should choose , if my hardware will be up for the task and my best plan of attack. I'll be honest I'm not ready to bang my head on the keyboard for hours. I've been there and done that.  My hardware was some of the best at its time in 2011 and I'm not 100% confident it will work with a more up to date macOS I'm also concerned about drivers for my GPU.  All input is welcomed   Here are my current specs:   CPU
