Osx-10.8.5 Restore.pkg Fails To Install

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm running osx 10.6.8 on a mac mini trying to install the dmg file to the usb using the restore.pkg file. It starts installing then displays "The installation failed" each time. I had the same problem when trying to install 10.8.2. I never resolved that and decided to move onto 10.8.5.

To be clear;

I have OSX-10.8.5.dmg and OSX-10.8.5 Restore.pkg in a folder together and a 16GB usb drive selected. The usb drive is not formatted (got stuff on there) but its gonna wipe it anyway (which I'm fine with). I run the .pkg file in the folder.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Just been looking at the logs for a clue, found this:

21/12/2013 12:04:57 com.apple.ReportCrash.Root[567] 2013-12-21 12:04:57.147 ReportCrash[567:2803] Failed to create CSSymbolicatorRef for installd

Which means its trying to link to a library thats not there or incompatible.
