Cannot create USB stick

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to create the USB stick for installing Mavericks.  I'm trying to do this on a Mac mini running High Sierra.  I want to install Mavericks on a HP Probook 4540s.

When I run Install Mavericks-Restore it goes through much of the process, then up comes a message:

The installation failed.

The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail.  Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.

I have the Mavericks-Restore package and the OS X Mavericks 10.9.5.dmg package in a directory called Mavericks under Documents.

I have tried formatting the USB stick with both GUID and MBR.  I have formatted it as Mac OS Extended journaled.

Any tips gratefully received.

Incidentally the reason I am trying Mavericks is that once I succeeded in installing Mavericks on this computer but lost it at a later date for reasons which I don't now remember.  If I ever get Mavericks to work again, I might just try a higher version.

Well, it seems like I'm the only one with this problem.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

@Deltagande Hii, It could happen if your USB Drive is dirty or which has less-than 8GB in capacity, try a USB drive with higher capacity.

You can also try to restore it with Diskutility.
