Installing High Sierra on an 2006 iMac Core 2 Duo

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

Someone gave me a 2006 iMac Core 2 Duo. I know that this is a legacy machine, but I would like to try installing High Sierra on it and get a few more years out of it.

I know that I did something like this with an older MacBook a few years ago, but I have forgotten what steps that I took.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I don't know specifically which iMac it is, but chances are it won't support High Sierra because the processor does have a required instruction set. If you have the model of it, I can check for you.

Honestly, your best bet is a clean install of Yosemite of Mountain Lion. I betcha Sierra will slow it down.
