Intel HD 4000 Resolution issue very strange...

Recommended Posts

Hey! I've got very strange issue with the resolution of Intel HD 4000 graphic card. I Have two almost identical laptops. Both are the exact same model HP Elitebook 8570p. On one of them I'm able to get resolution 1600 x 900(even with "Night Shift" mode),but on the other I can get only 1366 x 768. The only differance between the two are the CPUs. On that with the higher resolution the CPU is Core i5 -3320 as suppose to Core i5 -3340 on the one with lower resolution. I even use the same image backup file on both computers. I tried almost everything with different settings with clover configurator, but without success. I've swapped the config.plist files on both even the whole EFI partition, also I swapped the CPUs on both to see if that's the reason, but nothing...
Is there some reason why I can't make the resolution on that with 1366 x 768 to 1600 x 900? Can you help me please?!

Thank you!

Your graphics hardware IDs are same, but some parts differ so your laptops are not the same by hardware.

After checking out some specs https://support.hp.com/ee-en/document/c03393927

I think there are 3 different display type for your Laptop

  • 15.6-inch diagonal LED-backlit HD 16:9 anti-glare (1366 x 768)
  • 15.6-inch diagonal LED-backlit HD+ 16:9 WVA anti-glare (1600 x 900)
  • 15.6-inch diagonal LED-backlit FHD WVA anti-glare (1920 x 1080)

It means one of your Laptop's Maximum resolution is 1366 x 768, so I think there is nothing to debug here

If you want to confirm this, Install windows on low-resolution laptop and check if it supports 1600 x 900 resolution.

    • Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum.   I've installed High Sierra on my box.   These are my settings:   Intel Core i5 3570k (Intel HD 4000) MSI Z77A-G41 8GB RAM 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD   I'm using an HDMI cable with a monitor resolution 1920x1080   Everything is working fine... I've got my LAN working after installing some kexts.   But now I can't have my VGA working properly (some glitches and slowdowns).   I've tried alot of things that I've found on the internet, like changing config.plist on Clover with some different settings. But nothing worked for me... even youtube videos showing how to get it to work...   Can you guys help me please?   Thanks!

    • Hi You might use Apple Disk Utility to clone the disk. May be you must  write a disk image of your Startup disk first. Carbon CopyCloner will do it too ( EVEN IF THE DISK IS IN USE). Then you must install Clover on the Disk and copy the contents of the efi Partition of your startup dist to the Clone. Voila thats it.
